Sometimes I get twitchy, and I start to worry about Clay's career. I am
usually able to stop, slow down and appreciate how far he has come when I ask
myself a few simple questions.
Did anyone here know Clayton Aiken eight months ago?
Would anyone have believed it was possible for a then college student
to have the biggest record of the year?
Anyone think that same college student would end up on the cover of Rolling
Stone, in their biggest selling issue in years, still wearing his WWJD
bracelet to remind him of his values?
Anyone know any college students who are represented by one of the top
entertainment law firms in the country?
How about any college students whose two month old
professional singing careers are supervised by one of the most successful men
in the music business, a producer whose name is legendary?
How about any college students who are selling out concerts in forty cities
for an estimated audience of half a million people?
How about college students whose names generate 70,000 mentions on the
internet?
How about any college students who take the first real money they earn and set
up charitable foundations?
Or college students who go to Washington DC representing one of the most
highly respected film study foundations in the world, to talk to senators and
government officials about using the film arts to advance education?
I can't figure out why some people think Clay Aiken is a naive young innocent,
having just bought his first pair of shoes as he steps out of a Carolina
hayfield.
:
All the evidence says that this young man is intelligent, articulate,
thoughtful, used to planning his life out and fully able to roll with the
punches.
And... he has God on his side.
I know that all of the concern expressed here is done in the spirit of love,
but...
From now on, I plan to sit back with a big old smile on my face and
watch a remarkable life and a fabulous career unfold!
